I read a couple of interesting articles today. The first article is
about how Moore's Law will last for at least the next 10 years. If you don't know
about Moore's Law it states that the processing power will double every 18 months
and that the cost of the same amount of processing power will be reduced by half
every 18 months. I.E. in 18 months the new AMD Athlon 64 will be twice as powerful
as the Barton Athlon 3000+ of today, but the 3000+ will cost half as much as it does
now. This second article
I found much more intersting. It discusses why following Moore's Law might not be
such a good thing, stating that in 20 years at this rate Intel's anual R&D cost
would have to hit $31 trillion, as big as the world's current GDP.
Another interesting article that I read today is about blogs and how the freedom of
everyone posting their own information inherently leads to people only reading a
fraction of it.

Jack Valenti got me thinking, and then he got me pretty steamed. So I posted another
rant. This one contains my opinions on file
sharing.
In other news our friends Mia, Mike, and Janet are all coming to visit next weekend.
I haven't got the whole weekend planned yet, but it should be fun.

I saw something on slashdot this morning, a link to entertainment weekly where they
pick the 25 greatest Simpsons episodes of all time. You can see it here.
It's kind of interesting because all but one of the shows aired before 1998. Now
did the Simpsons really get worse at that time, or did people just stop watching
because HBO sunday nights became so much better? I remember where Sunday nights on
FOX were a must see. Now it seems like HBO has that designation. I have a feeling
it's a little bit of both, FOX went downhill and HBO stepped into the void.

No real news today. The only reason I'm posting is that there is an interesting
interview with Jack Valenti on the web. You can read it here. I'm begining
to think this man really is the devil. I should be writing something about file
sharing for my rants soon.
In lighter news you should check out this site. I've seen it before and it's
quite funny. But now they have t-shirts.

I'm at home under the weather today, so I thought I'd post a bit of news.
Kathrine and I finally made it back out to Crystal Mountain this weekend. It was
alot of fun. I didn't fall that much, and I've almost conquered the lifts. My
problem now is, I have a hard time doing any heelside turns, and I can't stop or
sideslip on my heelside at all. What this means since I ride goofy footed is: I
can only turn sharply to the left and I can only stop while facing up the mountain.
Hopefully by my next trip out I'll have that problem licked, and I can actually start
linking turns.
I also posed a new rant. This one is in refrence to
my political stances. You may or may not find it interesting. I'll leave that up
to you.

I added a couple of new rants. One about music genres and
more specifically the genre called pop. The second is an update of my feelings on
lyrics in music. I hope someone finds them interesting.
Not much else is new. I have all my own snowboard equipment now, and am itching to
try it out. Kathrine and I planned on going last Sunday but the weather did not
agree, who wants to go in the rain? The weather forecast calls for snow all week
and snow on the weekend so sunday looks like it might be our best bet.

Well I told you I was going to do it, and I finally got around to it. My Rants and Raves has been updated with the album
reviews. Still to come is my book discussion.
I also added some new information to the Seattle page. I figured I'm not a newbie
any longer and could put a little more information there. As always, feel free to
leave a comment or drop me a note.

Over the last few days I’ve made tons of changes to the site. The best part is
though, you can’t see any of them.
Why is that you ask?
Well that’s because they’ve all been internal. I’ve made all the vb scripts in my
asp much tighter. I’ve also changed the way the comments and news are stored.
They’re now in an Access database that my vb scripts query through SQL. That makes
administrating the site much easier for me.
Since the weekend is upon me, I'm going to do some other needed updates. I just
bought three new albums: [DARYL] - [DARYL], ...And You Will Know Us By the
Trail of Dead - Source Tags and Codes, and Sorta - Laugh Out Loud.
Once I give them all a critical listen, I'll try and put a review in my rants and
raves.
Also coming soon to my rants and raves will be a review of sorts of a book I just
finished reading Taboo: Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We’re Afraid
to Talk About It. I thought it was excellent and deserves much discussion.
And finally, there are loads of upcoming events.

Three days in a row, some new kind of record. Of course this is just all part of my
grand plan just to keep in touch with people. I'm bad at calling and writing to
friends and relatives. I'm going to send this link out to them all and hopefully I
can use it to stay in touch. And if it doesn't work, it will be their fault,
because I gave them all the oppertunity to easily stay in touch with me. Isn't
passing the blame fun?
In other news I've posted the first rant on my rants and raves page. I probably won't add stuff
there too often unless the demand is great, and who am I kidding there will be zero
demand.
The page is actually starting to take pretty good shape. Very few
things aren't populated. About the only thing left to do from scratch is my
biography, but you all know enough about me right?
I also have to update
the Seattle info page. I know a lot more about this place now and am in a better
position to provide more information.
Well that's the news for now. Hope you enjoy.

Whew. Someone might think that I really care. I just got some stuff working. You
can now leave comments, and it works pretty well. I can also leave news remotely.
Which makes this even more blog like. But I must stress this is not a blog.
