Changes are a coming...

11:11 AM

Site update time. There are a few things I want to do to the site. I'd like some feedback on what you think.

First, I want to change the way the archive menu is laid out. It seems to be a little confusing. Although I don't think anyone but me actually uses it.

Next, Kathrine asked me if I had seen a comment posted on my website recently. I said I hadn't. Why not? It was on a story I'd written about a few days previously and I simply hadn't checked it. I am proposing to fix that by listing the 10 or 20 most recent comments on the right side menu. That way you can see if some posts something on any thread no matter how old.

Third, I recently realized that quite a few of my posts are short one or two line blurbs and then a link off into space. Probably not the most entertaining reading. So, I propose that I save entries for things where I plan on writing more than a few lines. All the other stuff will be posted in on post called 'The Links of the Day' with a short description of each.

The Economist and Copyright

8:41 AM

The Economist is totally on my side now. I'm not sure the 14+14 is exactly the right way to go. I think that it would be a good start however. Possibly a change is to make certain works inelligible for the 14 year extension (software comes to mind).

Top 20 for 20

10:43 PM

Many of you may know that Spin Magazine published their list of the 100 greatest records of the last 20 years. As with any list like this, everyone is going to find a few faults. In general though, I thought the list was done pretty well. I thought they picked the wrong record by a few bands (Psychocandy over Darklands, Head on the Door over Disintegration, Pinkerton over Weezer). I also thought there were a few thing that just didn't belong (Cornershop? Hole?). They also picked a few things that I felt were to recent to be included. I only picked 3 artists that didn't appear on their list and two of them were to correct mistakes I think they made (Underworld is better than Moby and 2Pac is better than Biggie).

Over at The Juice, there has been quite a discussion of everyone's personal top twenty; so I decided to make my own list.

...You just have to see this. I think I am scarred. Apparantly it was an out take from I Heart Huckabees. Who knew...

Blast From the Past

2:41 PM

I miss the 80's and all the great ads directed at kids. Do they still have these? I never see them... but I don't watch nickelodeon. This brings back memories though.

Connector Hell

11:25 AM

Kathrine was mad the other day when she took her digital camera to work and realized that the USB plug on it wouldn't fit the standard USB cable she had at work. She needed the special cable that came with the camera. She's not the only one angry.

Super Nerd!

10:02 AM

Drew McWeeny better known as Moriarty from Ain't It Cool News has just had a baby boy. Why would I post about something so trivial you ask? Especially since I think all babies are spawns of satan? Check out it's name: Toshiro Lucas McWeeny. He named his kid afer Toshiro Mifune and George Lucas. I feel safe in knowing that no matter how big of a nerd I am, there is always someone worse!
