A few new things today. First of all here is a story about two bills
currently in the house. I know this is from the Christian Broadcasting Network, so I'm obviously
taking the opposite view. However, they refer to both the bill protecting fast food
corporations from lawsuits and the bill raising the standards of broadcast television
'consumer friendly'. That almost made me spit water through my nose. How is the
consumer benifited by NOT being able to sue a corporation? How is the consumer
benifited by having the government decide what is acceptable to watch? That's just
ludicris.
This
next story is over at Wired. It
is an interesting history on how all the major media industries currently fighting
piracy, have their roots in piracy.

Read this story over at Wired today. It's an interesting read and drives home the point that I've tried to make hundreds of time. Americans are scarred for no reason, yet the accept solutions that don't make them any safer.
Here is an articles that doesn't have anything to do with copyrights or patents. Aren't you proud? This one is an interesting read about the war on terror, using lessons that should have been learned from Libya.
I just can't quit with stories on copyright. This new bill makes it legal to copyright a database. Now as of current copyright law it is illegal to copyright a fact. However, this new law would allow you to put facts in a database, and then claim ownership of them. When is someone with a clue going to start looking at these laws?
I'm getting worse and worse about keeping this up to date. And as Kathrine say, I'll
I ever talk about it copyright. Know what? I've got another story about
copyright. This one was written by John C. Dvorak, someone who I highly
respect. I may not agree with him 100% of the time, but he's not an idiot.
In other news, Kathrine finally made me step out of the dark ages and get a cell
phone. So far I've had it almost a week, and have only used it to call her. I also
haven't given the number to anyone, because I don't want them calling me. Does that
sound antisocial? Anyway, if you want my number just email me and I can probably be
convinced to dole it out.
I also bought a new man-bag recently. My previous bag that I bought in New York was
a Manhattan Portage
knock-off.

I've been reading quite a few articles like this one lately. It seems like gay marriage is the next big issue. It also seems that the people opposing it are in a slight majority. Which is why I'm glad we don't live in a democracy. Benjamin Franklin (who is just filled with great quotes) once said, "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding on what to have for lunch." Nothing illustrates this point better than any issue dealing with a minority group. By definition they can't be part of the majority. Therefore in a democracy their voice could never be heard. By the same arguement that people are making against gay marriage many other things could be argued. If I could take a poll and 55% of Americans thought all Arabs should be booted from the country, should we ammend the constitution to do it? Did a majority of the people support the 14th amendment? Does it matter if they did. While I don't agree with everything the founding fathers put into place, this is one thing they hit on the head.

I haven't posted in a while, not that anyone keeps track of that anyway. I did come across something interesting the other day at The New York Times. It's a story about how the porn industry tolerates file trading because they know that giving people a taste, only makes them want more. As long as people aren't selling their work and are just giving it away they know it will just drive more people to their sites. Maybe the RIAA should read this?
It hasn't been 10 minutes yet, and I've already discovered something that is sure to make list in 2004!
In proof that I don't just talk about patents and copyrights, read this article. It's Business 2.0's fourth annual review of the most shameful, dishonest, and just plain stupid moments of the past year. If it weren't true you could almost laugh!
