Funny Comic

11:01 AM

This comic is laugh out loud hillarious. I hope you feel the same way.

In other news, I'm working hard to do a major site overhaul. You may or may not notice the changes, but basically it lets me do almost all site maitenance remotely; which should allow for more frequent updates. I should have everything finished up by this evening. Once that is done, expect a flurry of new postings including some new pictures, new news, and some new rants and raves.

Nuclear Power

3:09 PM

Best article I've read on nuclear power in some time was published today on wired. I really don't see how anyone who is an enviornmentalist can rationally argue against nuclear power at this point. It may not be the end all final answer to our coming energy crisis, but it makes a nice stop gap and is far less polluting than anything we else we could use at this time. To bad it's the Chinese doing it and not us.

Tweaks

12:30 PM

I've made some changes to the site. Basically I tweaked the layout a little so that individual posts by me and coments each get their own box. I find that this makes it easier to read.

I also made it impossible for you to double post when leaving a comment. I've had problems with it in the past, and got tired of manually cleaning it up; so I added some checks that should keep it from happening again.

If anyone runs into any issues with the site, please let me know. Either leave a comment here, or send me an email. I can never test things as well as I would like (Kathrine gets mad when I work through dinner, imagine what she'd do if I didn't come to bed either), so I may have let some things slide.

Chuck Klosterman

2:55 PM

Chuck Klosterman, who is one of my favorite authors, recently put for the following content in Spin.

Here's the idea: you must build the ideal rock band. You need a singer, a guitarist, a bass player, a drummer, and one "wild card" (this musician can play whatever you choose and provide backing vocals). The rules are as follows:

  1. You can't take more than one member from an existing group.
  2. You can't pick Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley as your vocalist.
  3. You can't pick Jimi Hendrix as your guitar player.
  4. If you pick a bassist who sings (like Les Claypool) or a drummer who sings (like Don Henley) or a guitarist who sings (like Maroon 5 front-man Adam Levine), he (or she) can't sing in this particular band. They can play their specific instrument only. Also, if you select Les Claypool or Don Henley, you're a prick.
  5. You can't pick John Bonham as your drummer. You also can't pick Animal from The Muppet Show.

The idea has intrigued me to say the least.

Lawrence Lessig, who is one of my heroes, just posted a great article over at Wired. Everyone should go read it here.

Science

10:44 AM

I found this article quite fascinating. I've become bothered by the direction much of our science is going and feel that we are very close to loosing any scientific edge we may have once had over the rest of the world.

Sick!

4:02 PM

This article may be the sickest thing I've read online in a long time. Democrats are costing themselves voters because they have more abortions. Even if it wasn't a disgusting arguement to make, the logic isn't very good. Just because someone is liberal and willing to have an abortion is no gurantee that their children would grow up with similar political beliefs.

Small Update

5:33 PM

I just did a minor update to the website. The pictures section is all new with new pictures and a theme that fits the rest of the site. Take a look!

In other news, the Geroge Bush campaign is currently running an ad on the website with footage lifted from an ad that was submitted for the moveon.org Bush in 30 Seconds campaign. This is a clear case of copyright infringement. I want everyone to take a moment to contact moveon.org and let them know that they should pursue legal action against the Bush campaign. Below is the letter I sent. Feel free to edit it and send in your own.

I recently watched this commercial @ http://www.georgewbush.com/VideoAndAudio/. I discovered that it had footage from one of the commercials that was submitted for the Bush in 30 Seconds campaign. I was under the impression that all the commercials in that campaign were licensed under the Creative Common License, which forbids derivative works. If that is indeed the case, this commercial represents a gross violation of copyright law.
