The City of Seattle

Well I've been here over a year now and am starting to get the hang of things. I'm in no way an expert but if you want to know anything that I din't provide, just ask.

The Neighboorhood

I don't live in Wallingford anymore. I have since moved to a neighborhood called Wedgewood. It's not as hip and trendy, but it's nice. There are alot of Hasidic Jews in the neighborhood and it's fun to see them all walk to the synagogue. Anyway, I'm going to now just compile a list of my favorite Seattle things. You can click on them, and they will make you happy.

Food and Dining

One of my favorite things to do is eat, and Seattle doesn't dissapoint. It contains everything from little cafes to great sit down and ethnic restraunts. Some of the highligts include: The Asteroid Cafe, Sea Thai, Lotus Thai, Pagliacci Pizza, The Mandalay Cafe, The Dahlia Lounge, and Jet City Pizza.

What can I say we like to drink. Our favorite bar is definately The Pacific Inn Pub. It's small, and dingy, but they have good drinks and great pub food. Plus it doesn't hurt that the juke box has some very good selections. It's always crowded but when the weather is nice you can sit outside. Another favorite of mine is The George and Dragon. It's as close as you can get to a real British pub on this side of the pond. We don't go there as much anymore since Ryan got kicked out though!.

We have a good supply of great grocery stores to shop in. Just like in Dallas my favorite is Whole Foods, but in a pinch Larry's Market will do. It's also very nice albeit not very convenient to shop at The Pike Place Public Market. We also have the best asian market I've ever been to in Uwajimaya. On weekends during the "dry season" you can also shop at the farmer's market in the University District. In fact Seattle has quite a few neighborhood farmer's markets.

Entertainment

What could be more entertaining than movies? If you want to see a movie I'd suggest staying with one of the Landmark Theatres. Another fun place to go is the Cinerama. It's a very old theater that Paul Allen restored and is great to see the Hollywood Blockbusters on. If theater's aren't your thing, may I suggest Scarecrow Video? They have most of your current new releases and old movies on DVD. But they have video's and DVD's from around the world. And ton's of independent films. It's the place that fuels Kathrine and I's habit of Hong Kong Action flicks.

There's also alot of live music here. Enough, so that I'm not going to list any specific clubs. I tend to use Pollstar to get a list of what's going on. If you want to buy music we do have our share of record stores. The one I frequent most is Sonic Boom Records. They have three locations. I also lately have become a very big fan of Easy Street Records. Of course if you don't want to see a show or buy a CD, there's always the radio. And if that's your thing may I suggest KEXP. It started off as a University radio station, now it partners with the EMP and provides the best and most eclectic commercial free radio I've ever heard.

If you don't like eating or movies or music, I'm sure Seattle has something else to offer you. We have hiking and camping; skiing and snowboarding in the winter; boating; professional football, basketball, and baseball; college sports; and just about anything else you could want. So far I must say, I'm liking it here.
